Richard Tapscott

Richard Tapscott (Des Moines). Richard spent 35 years as a reporter and editor before becoming an adjunct instructor and professional in residence at Drake University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He began his career in 1972 as a reporter at the Trenton (Mo.) Republican-Times and retired in 2007 as managing editor of The News Journal in Wilmington, Del. His stops in between included the Fayetteville (N.C.) Times, The Tulsa Tribune, the Wichita Eagle-Beacon, the Kansas City Times, The Washington Post and The Des Moines Register, where he was metro editor, assistant managing editor and managing editor before moving to Wilmington in 2005. Richard was president of the Iowa Freedom of Information Council in 2004, founded the Delaware Freedom of Information Council in 2006 and is a board member of the Iowa Center for Public Affairs Journalism.
