Merrill Perlman (New York). Merrill is a freelance editor, consultant and trainer for The New York Times, ProPublica and the Poynter Institute, among others, and she writes the “Language Corner” column and blog for the Columbia Journalism Review. She spent 25 years as an editor or manager at The New York Times, most recently as director of copy desks, and is an adjunct assistant professor at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
