John F. McCarron (Chicago). John is a freelance writer, an adjunct lecturer in urban journalism at DePaul University and a contributing columnist for the Chicago Tribune, where he spent 27 years as an urban affairs reporter, financial editor and a member of the paper’s editorial board. After leaving the Tribune in 2000, John joined the Metropolitan Planning Council as vice president for planning and communications, and he also taught a graduate-level course at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. He continues to write a monthly column for the Tribune’s op-ed page and is a frequent guest on WTTW-TV’s "Chicago Tonight: The Week in Review."
