Joe Volz

Joe Volz (Washington).  A journalist for more than four decades, Joe spent the first part of his career at the Newark (N.J.) News, where from 1962 to 1969 he reported on corrupt politicians and organized crime. He came to Washington in 1970 and covered Congress for The Washington Daily News and Watergate for The Washington Star, which purchased the Daily News in 1972. In 1973 he joined the New York Daily News as a Washington correspondent and held that position for 14 years. Joe has taught journalism at the University of Maryland, George Washington University, the USDA Graduate School and The Writer’s Center in Bethesda, and he was a writing coach for a chain of suburban weeklies owned by The Washington Post.  Until retiring a few years ago, he wrote a nationally syndicated weekly column for the Copley News Service and a three-times-a-week political column for The Frederick (Md.) News-Post. He is a co-author of The Mafia Talks, published in 1969.
