Eric Schmitt

Eric Schmitt (Washington). Eric is a senior writer for The New York Times, covering domestic and international terrorism issues. He has reported on military and national security affairs for nearly 20 years, and has made nine trips to Iraq and four to Afghanistan since the Sept. 11 attacks. He has also covered immigration, business, Congress and the Pentagon. Before joining the Times in 1983, he covered education issues for the Tri-City Herald in Kennewick, Wash. Eric was part of a team of New York Times reporters awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1999 for reports on the transfer of sensitive military technology to China.
