David Scott (Chicago). David is the Central Region editor at the Associated Press, overseeing the AP’s journalism in 14 states that stretch from the Mexican to the Canadian borders and cover three time zones. He joined the news cooperative in 1999 as a reporter in St. Louis, was a desk editor in Kansas City and then worked as a news editor in Raleigh, North Carolina. He set up and directed the AP’s newsroom in Blacksburg, Va., following the Virginia Tech shootings and served as an on-site editor during several hurricanes, including Katrina, Ike and Gustav. He was named Central Region editor, based in Chicago, in 2009. That same year, his team’s coverage of the shootings at Fort Hood, Texas, won the Scripps Howard National Journalism Award for Breaking News.
