Amanda Ripley (Washington). Amanda is a contributing writer at Time magazine, covering risk and homeland security. She has traveled the world reporting on disasters, natural and manmade. She is the author of The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes—and Why, which was published in 2008. In 2005, Amanda covered Hurricanes Katrina and Rita from New Orleans, helping Time win two National Magazine Awards.
